Painters on the Eyre Peninsula
The Eyre Peninsula is the great triangle of country west of Spencer Gulf, 4 to 8 hours west of Adelaide depending on where you stop. Whyalla, the steel city, sits at the top on the gulf, with its suburbs of Whyalla Norrie, Whyalla Stuart and Whyalla Jenkins and the mining towns of Iron Knob and Iron Baron behind it. The Lincoln Highway runs south past Cowell, Arno Bay and Tumby Bay to Port Lincoln on Boston Bay, home of the tuna and seafood fleets, with Coffin Bay around the corner. The west coast is wilder: Elliston, Venus Bay, Streaky Bay and Smoky Bay lead up to Ceduna and the start of the Nullarbor. Inland, Cummins, Cleve, Lock, Kimba and Wudinna are grain towns on wide, flat wheat country.

About the region
Painting on the Eyre Peninsula
Distance shapes how SA Painting Professionals works on the Eyre Peninsula. Quotes begin with your photos and plans, we send an itemised price, and we confirm it on site before the job starts. We then order the full job in one go and book the work in blocks of days, grouping nearby jobs where we can. The work itself covers interior and exterior repaints of homes and holiday shacks, roof painting, new build painting, motel and shopfront repaints, and industrial coatings on steel, sheds and tanks around Whyalla and Port Lincoln. Every quote is free, itemised and without obligation. SA Painting Professionals is licensed and insured, uses trade-quality paints from the major Australian brands, and works Monday to Friday, 7am to 5pm.
Whyalla was largely built by the steelworks and the Housing Trust between the 1940s and 1970s, so its suburbs are rows of fibro, brick and steel-clad homes, with Whyalla Jenkins and the newer edges in brick veneer and Colorbond. Port Lincoln has 1800s stone buildings near the foreshore, post-war brick and fibro in its older streets, 1970s brick veneer on the hills and new rendered homes on the fringe. Ceduna and Thevenard are mostly fibro, brick and transportable homes. Cummins, Cleve, Kimba and Wudinna have early 1900s stone shopfronts and cottages, post-war brick homes and farmhouses with big steel sheds. On the coast at Coffin Bay, Tumby Bay, Cowell, Streaky Bay and Smoky Bay, fibro and transportable shacks are giving way to newer Colorbond and lightweight-clad holiday homes.

Local painting considerations
Steelworks fallout in Whyalla
Whyalla's homes sit beside a steelworks and an iron ore port, so red dust and industrial grime settle on roofs, walls, gutters and sills on top of the salt off Spencer Gulf. Every exterior is washed down before preparation, then washed again before topcoats if the wind has been up. Steel around the industrial areas, Port Bonython and the wharves is prepared to the specified class and coated with protective systems selected under AS/NZS 2312.1:2014, using APAS-approved products where a specification calls for them.
West coast salt and swell
Elliston, Venus Bay, Streaky Bay, Smoky Bay and Ceduna face the Great Australian Bight, and Coffin Bay and Port Lincoln take the Southern Ocean on one side and gulf breezes on the other. Salt spray and wind-blown sand wear paint films quickly and rust any bare steel. We fresh-water wash before sanding, use corrosion-inhibiting primers on gutters, railings, window frames and shed cladding, put marine-grade systems on exposed metal, and finish with 100% acrylic topcoats that handle the UV.
Inland heat and harvest dust
Kimba, Wudinna, Cleve and Lock run hotter than the coast in summer, and paint applied in the heat of the day dries too fast to level properly. Exterior work inland is scheduled for early starts, the shaded side of the house, and the cooler months where possible. Light colours and heat-reflective roof coatings keep Colorbond and iron cooler and make the film last longer. At harvest, dust from the paddocks blows onto everything, so surfaces are washed again before each coat.
Post-war fibro and lead paint
A large share of Whyalla, Port Lincoln and Ceduna was built and painted before 1970, so lead paint is assumed under the current coats and handled under AS/NZS 4361.2:2017: wet sanding or chemical stripping with containment, no dry sanding, no burning off, and careful clean-up. Sound paint is left in place and overcoated. Intact fibro sheeting, common on Housing Trust homes and coastal shacks, is washed by hand, primed and painted, never sanded or water-blasted.
