  • Burra and Clare stone in lime mortar

    Burra's miners' cottages and the stone villas of Clare, Auburn and Mintaro were laid in lime mortar that has to breathe. Painting bare stone or sealing old lime render under an acrylic film traps moisture, and the render or the paint lets go within a few seasons. Our approach is to leave sound stone bare, use mineral or lime-based breathable coatings on rendered walls, repoint cracks with a compatible mortar, and paint timber joinery, verandahs and iron lace to AS/NZS 2311:2017.

  • Harvest dust and hot northerlies

    From Balaklava and Owen up to Brinkworth and Booborowie, the cropping plains throw fine dust into the air from harvest through summer, and hot northerly winds dry paint on the brush. Grit in a wet coat ruins the finish, and paint that flashes off in the wind does not bond. Where paint is flaking we wet-sand or chemically strip with containment, never dry sand or burn it off, and we clean up carefully before the new system goes on.
Can you paint our farmhouse and the sheds in one visit?
Yes, and for properties around Blyth, Brinkworth, Booborowie or Hallett that is the sensible way to do it. We quote the house, the shearing or machinery sheds, the silos and any stockyard steel as separate items on one quote, so you can choose what goes ahead. Steel gets a corrosion-inhibiting primer and a UV-stable topcoat, the house gets a full wash, sand, fill and prime before colour, and the crew stays until the lot is done rather than making two trips from Adelaide.
